Underwater Response Team
The Niagara County Sheriff's Office Underwater Response Team (U.R.T.) is a fully mobile rapid deployment underwater SCUBA response team. The team is made up of sworn officers that are trained and certified as Public Safety SCUBA divers, and are dive rescue trained. The team has the capabilities of, but is not limited to, investigating underwater crime scenes, light salvage operations, underwater surveys, and search and recovery efforts.
The team has also worked with several local police agencies along with Federal agencies including the U.S. Border Patrol and U.S. Coast Guard. Most recently they’ve cross-trained with Niagara County’s Marine Division. The team is fully geared for cold water and ice diving operations, and currently implementing wireless Auga-mask communications. The team members all are current N.A.U.I. advanced scuba certified.
The mission of the Niagara County Sheriff's Office Underwater Response Team is to give the residents and visitors of Niagara County the benefit of having a highly trained and motivated professional Dive Response Team that is ready to respond in a rapid manner to a water emergency both above and below the water’s surface.
