 Deputy Allen Gerhardt
At 1:30 a.m. on Monday morning, Niagara
County Sheriff's Deputy Allen Gerhardt, 36, was responding to assist a
fellow Deputy who was in foot pursuit in Ransomville when he lost control of his car on Lake
Road.
Niagara County Sheriff Jim Voutour stated "When he went off the roadway he went
sideways and struck a guardrail and that guardrail went through the police
vehicle, and in that process Deputy Gerhardt unfortunately lost the bottom half
of his legs."
Deputy Gerhardt joined the Sheriff’s Office in August of 2008 after being
employed as a State Parks Officer since 2003. Deputy Gerhardt is currently a
member of the Army National Guard and served as a Line Pilot in Iraq during 2006
and 2007. Deputy Gerhardt received numerous medals and citations for his actions
during the Iraqi war. Deputy Gerhardt is married to his wife, Tina, and has 3
children; ages 14, 9 and 4.
